Winnie Mae came to us barely clinging to life, a tragic product of backyard breeding gone wrong. She was turned into the shelter with a grossly infected and prolapsed vagina, unable to urinate properly due to a deformed urethra. Emergency surgery lasting over four hours, followed by a blood transfusion and critical care, was the only option to save her life.
But her challenges didn’t stop there. Winnie Mae also had a severe underbite, deformed digits, and other congenital defects, evidence of a failed attempt at creating a so-called “designer breed.” Despite everything, Winnie Mae never lost her gentle spirit.
She healed slowly, supported every step of the way by her incredible foster family. And when she was finally ready for adoption, it was clear, she was already home. Her foster family officially made her a permanent part of the pack, and Winnie Mae (now Lizzy) is living her BEST LIFE, surrounded by love, doggy siblings, and the care she always deserved.
Her journey is a powerful reminder: Adopt, don’t shop. Every dog deserves a chance at life beyond the cruelty of careless breeding.
