ONLY 1 LB & 6 WEEKS old, this tiny puppy was placed in a cardboard box and dumped outside an apartment complex in 90+ degree heat with no food or water!
Luckily, a kind contractor saw him, picked him up and took him to his daughter. She tried her best to help the puppy, but he was unresponsive and would not eat or drink. Not having the financial means to take the puppy to a vet, she posted his story to NextDoor pleading for help. That’s when a kind neighbor and Red Collar Rescue became involved.
This little guy was taken immediately to the vet where he was found to be severely dehydrated. But of even greater concern, he has an open fontanelle (skull soft spot) on the top of his head, believed to be caused by a congenital condition known as Hydrocephalus, where an excess of cerebrospinal fluid leaks inside the skull. This causes brain swelling and is often referred to as water on the brain, and can lead to neurological damage in severe cases. We are watching him closely and praying his condition will improve. He is currently eating and drinking and behaving like a normal puppy..
This little boy is so tiny he could fit in your pocket, thus his new name…Pocket! Pocket is already a survivor, and we are here to help him continue on his road to becoming a healthy happy pup!
