Meet Howdy

HOWDY is back at Texas A&M small animal hospital. After weeks of critical care, 3 orthopedic surgeries, and 6 months of rehab, Howdy’s right front leg sadly requires amputation.
We rescued Howdy from the shelter in critical condition in Oct 2021 and headed straight to the ER at A&M. His right front leg was broken, he had pulmonary contusions, cracked ribs, deep necrotic wounds, anemia, and more. After several days in critical care, he was stable enough to undergo anesthesia, and orthopedic surgery was performed to stabilize his broken right front leg.

However, Howdy developed a life-threatening bone infection on his surgically repaired leg, and required a 2nd orthopedic surgery to remove and replace the plates and screws and start all over.
During this time we also discovered he had a dislocated right hip which required a 3rd surgery called an FHO (femoral head ostectomy).

Despite weeks of hospitalization, physical therapy, crate rest, and antibiotics, the bones in Howdy’s right front leg still will not heal. Having exhausted all measures, his vet team determined that there is no other option but to amputate it. This will be Howdy’s 4th and hopefully final orthopedic surgery.
Through it all, Howdy is a sweet little guy who never complains. He is only 1 year old and 12 lbs. We cannot wait to get him healthy and into a loving forever home!

So glad Howdy found a forever home!
