Nelson was brought to BARC in Houston after being shot while living on the streets. His injuries were severe, two broken toes, shrapnel lodged in his foot, and painful infections that required immediate medical attention.
Red Collar Rescue stepped in and rushed him into care, where he was started on pain medication, antibiotics, and daily hydrotherapy to help clean his wounds, reduce infection, and restore circulation.
Once the infection was under control, Nelson underwent surgery to remove the embedded shrapnel and repair the damage to his foot. Thanks to dedicated veterinary care and the support of a loving foster home, he made a remarkable recovery, and was able to keep his leg.
As his body healed, Nelson’s personality truly began to shine. Affectionate, cuddly, and always smiling, he quickly won the hearts of everyone around him.
Not long after, Nelson found his forever home, where he now lives the safe, joyful life he was always meant to have.
