Kat – Recovered & Adopted

Kat was just a 3-month-old Catahoula puppy when she was found injured on Airline Drive and brought to the shelter. Her condition was so severe that she was scheduled for euthanasia before the end of the day. But Red Collar Rescue stepped in, knowing she deserved a chance to fight for her life.

She was rushed straight to the emergency vet, where she was placed on IV fluids for shock, given pain medication, and thoroughly evaluated. X-rays revealed devastating injuries, five fractures in her right front leg and a severely damaged paw.

The following day, Kat underwent orthopedic surgery. The most serious damage was in her paw, where bones were crushed, and some were missing entirely through a large open wound. She required the amputation of two toes, while the remaining bones were carefully realigned to save her leg.

Her recovery was long and carefully managed with a splint and ongoing medical care, but Kat proved to be incredibly strong. Against all odds, she healed and learned to walk normally again.

With the love of a dedicated foster mom, Kat continued to thrive, and eventually found her forever home. Today, she’s not only safe and loved, but even gets to go to work with her new mom, a full circle moment for a puppy who was once given no chance at all.
