Haddi – In Recovery

Haddi was found barely clinging to life in South Texas after being hit by a car and left with a severely injured front leg. The shelter vet amputated the limb, but Haddi declined rapidly after surgery. When the shelter reached out, we knew we had to act fast.

We transported Haddi 6 hours overnight to an ER in Houston, where he arrived at 5:00 AM barely alive. He was suffering from life-threatening anemia and required an emergency blood transfusion. Over the next few weeks, Haddi would spend more than 20 days in critical care, endure six ER admissions, and receive a total of five blood transfusions, along with organ biopsies, ultrasounds, x-rays, and numerous blood tests.

Eventually, Haddi was diagnosed with IMHA (Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia) and Ehrlichia, a tick-borne disease. His body was producing new red blood cells, only to destroy them, causing dangerously low blood counts.

Despite it all, Haddi has shown incredible resilience. With the support of his medical team and foster mom, he’s now stable and back in his foster home. His red blood cell count is finally in the normal range, and we’ve started weaning him off his immune-suppressing medications. He even made it through a high-risk neuter surgery without triggering a relapse.

This sweet 3-year-old, 38-lb survivor still faces a long road ahead, but Haddi has defied the odds at every turn. We remain committed to seeing him through and are deeply grateful for the ongoing prayers and support that make stories like Haddi’s possible.
