Gidget – Recovered & Adopted

Gidget was only 6 months old and 8 lbs when she was found after being attacked by a much larger dog. Her prior owners had let her roam free and, instead of seeking medical care, turned her into the shelter, leaving her at risk of euthanasia.

When Red Collar Rescue responded, Gidget was rushed to the ER with deep wounds, broken ribs, and pleural effusion (fluid in her lungs). She spent several days in critical care, sedated for wound care, receiving IV fluids, antibiotics, pain medications, and constant monitoring. Her road to recovery was long, delicate, and required patience, love, and dedicated medical care.

Thanks to her foster family and supporters, Gidget turned the corner, her lung fluid resolved, wounds were sutured, and her ribs began healing naturally. During her recovery, she formed an inseparable bond with Riggs, another rescue, and the two became the ultimate foster duo.

Gidget and Riggs traveled together from Houston, TX to New York, where they were adopted into a loving forever home, a place where both girls could play, thrive, and experience the safe, joyful life they had always deserved.

Gidget’s journey is a powerful reminder of the impact of compassion and action — even the smallest, most delicate fighters can overcome unimaginable odds and find happiness.
