When Babs arrived in rescue, she was barely clinging to life. The tiny puppy was suffering from severe anemia, hypothermia, dangerously low blood pressure, and septic shock. An ultrasound revealed a rare and deadly condition called intussusception, where one part of the intestine telescopes into another, cutting off blood supply and causing the tissue to become gangrenous. Without emergency intervention, she would not survive.
Babs was rushed into a complex three-hour emergency surgery to remove damaged portions of her ileum, colon, and cecum before her organs were carefully reconnected. Even after surgery, her fight was far from over. She required blood transfusions and spent weeks in 24/7 critical care as her fragile body battled sepsis and struggled to heal.
Slowly, signs of hope appeared. Her bloodwork began to improve, her vital signs stabilized, and the spark of a normal puppy started to return. The tiny fighter who once hovered on the brink of death refused to give up.
Today, Babs is thriving in a loving foster home, gaining strength and learning how wonderful life can be. What began as a desperate fight for survival has become a powerful story of resilience, second chances, and the incredible will of one very special puppy.
